"Catholic" DePaul University Announces Plans to Host Pro-Homosexual Conference

"He who allows himself to be ruled or guided by the lower and animal part of his nature, deserves to be called a beast rather than a man." -- Saint Vincent de Paul

As the largest Catholic university in America with over 23,000 students, DePaul University plans to host a pro-homosexual conference on October 19-20, titled: "Out There: The Second National Conference of Scholars and Student Affairs Personnel Involved in LGBTQ Issues on Catholic Campuses." Students and parents are praying, protesting and calling for its cancellation.

Suspended Priestess at Seattle U

What do you do if you are a priestess in the Episcopalian Church and you get suspended from all ministry and teaching positions for declaring that you are also a Muslim? Don't worry, there's always a Jesuit university out there that will keep you teaching. In fact, you will probably get new offers from Georgetown and Boston College, to name a few. Seattle U President Stephen V. Sundborg, S.J. may have to bestow some new honor on her just to keep her. So he joins our list of Ivory Tower Heretics today.

Creighton U President Joins List of Ivory Tower Heretics

"We are grateful to Archbishop Curtiss for severing ties with the Center, and especially for making the action public and thereby warning good Catholics away from serious scandal," said CNS President Patrick J. Reilly. "Hopefully Creighton University will take this opportunity to put the Center on the path to serious, faithful scholarship."

To actually encourage premarital sex and co-habitation is the domain of the left wing media, not Catholic Universities. Archbishop Elden Curtiss of Omaha seems to recognize that but Creighton President Rev. John Schlegel, S.J apparently doesn't. Or else he thinks administering presidential authority would restrict "academic freedom". But what can you expect? He's a Jesuit, the Catholic Church's idea of Affirmative Action.

Merrimack College and Governor Patrick

Why would Merrimack College, a Catholic College in the Archdiocese of Boston, host Deval Patrick, the then governor-elect of Massachusetts? Why not, you ask? For one thing, Patrick ran on a platform that includes support for "Gay Marriage", embryonic stem cell research at taxpayers' expense, abortion rights, and every other anti-Catholic initiative you could think of. He has also said he will not accept federal funding for abstinence education in Massachusetts. That's right. He won't support abstinence education in Massachusetts schools, even as a supplement to the evil anything-goes sex education programs sponsored through planned Parenthood, even though the funding is free.

So again, the question remains, what is a Catholic College doing hosting this man? The only answer is the obvious. They are more than happy to mingle with secular power and scandalize a Church they only faintly remain tied to. One of this blogger's sons took a tour there when choosing a college. Not once did they mention they were Catholic and they left the chapel off the tour.

If Cardinal O'Malley had any honest courage, he'd declare Merrimack and its evil twin Stonehill no longer Catholic.

Pro-Abortion Pelosi to Deliver Commencement at Jesuit USF

This is just another example of the propensity of Catholic College and University presidents to suck up to political power while simultaneously shunning Christ and His Church.

May 17, 2007The Cardinal Newman Society (CNS) has urged the University of San Francisco (USF) - a Jesuit, Catholic university - to cancel its invitation to pro-abortion Rep. Nancy Pelosi to deliver the university's commencement address this Saturday. CNS also is opposing a posthumous honorary degree to pro-abortion politician Leo T. McCarthy. "Even as we celebrate the fact that a growing number of Catholic colleges are choosing exemplary commencement speakers and honorees, we learn that the University of San Francisco has chosen a much different direction," wrote CNS President Patrick J. Reilly in a letter faxed to USF President Rev. Stephen Privett, S.J., today. "You are publicly allying a Catholic university with leaders of what Pope John Paul II called a 'Culture of Death.'"
